It was a real WOW Experience watching Tom Cruise reading document images, transparently displayed in mid-air in the 2002 movie Minority Report. This fifty-year burst into the future-life of 2050 was thrilling exhibition of technology.
While there is not universal access to “projectional imaging” we have taken the concept to its next generation step with CV-STAND-OUT.
The more that I have researched the entire Talent Acquisition Process, observed the “ridiculous” not to mention excessively expensive things my children have done to create a “Distinct Talent Profile”, the necessity for an entire new architecture is more than obvious.
I have not met two talent professionals that utilize the same acquisition process. Some depend on out of date psychometric assessments, that have little validity with today’s human capital resource. Then, there are others that have an eclectic mix of various tests and homemade “in house” forms, that while creative, are a unnecessary complex solution to a much simpler process. The final group of talent professionals must have healthy acquisition budgets as they employee on-line experts and out-sourced third parties; lucky them. The question is, are they hiring the best people. It’s impossible to know but I surmise they miss more than they catch.
Next is the plight of the candidates, a herd of eagerness with only so many slots of opportunity. How does one “Stand-Out”? I am amused at the industry of professional “Head Shot” and slickly produced “video resumes”. The cost of this foolishness drives a parsimonious Yankee like myself somewhat speechless. I have followed the progress of a selected sample of candidates in the hope of discovering the success of this over the top “self-imaging” promotion. No even one of the candidates gained any luster from this overdone self-marketing. The weaknesses in their experience or education were obvious not improved by their young bright smile.
So, the solution to this dilemma of Buyers and Sellers was most apparent. Simplify and objectify the Talent Professional’s Acquisition Process. Create a simple “Talent at a Glance” one page resume that told the candidates complete Talent Story. Better than any bright smile is have a Sterling Character, Curious Aptitude, Positive Attitude that is directed by an Authentic Image of Self. This is something that your slickly crafted video resume can never accomplish in telling your complete Talent Story.
First, I developed the complete list of qualities that would create an objective standard that revealed the inside of the person. Study after study have shown that the “bright pretty smile” prevails and more than too often, what you see on the outside is not what’s going on inside. There are all too many horror stories of the “bad hire” with the bright smile that we spent 20,000 USD to acquire and cost double that amount to get rid of.
My Talent Acquisition System quickly assessed Aptitude, Achievement, Attitude, Expertise, Character and potential growth opportunities. All this on the privacy of our mobile phone application in less than thirty minutes for about seventy five dollar for a single user and for our corporate clients a mere thirty five dollars.
Unlike many other psychometric assessments, our questions are in plain spoken English, with no trick twisting of the language that forces people to second guess the question’s intent. We ask only for your first (most honest) response, as study after study demonstrate that this is the true image of the individual.
With this information in hand, I proceeded to create a one page visual resume, similar to what I saw in the movie.
The template comes up on screen. It first requests a JPEG of your choice that best represents “You”. It does not have to be a picture of your bright smile. Maybe an image of your expertise or style is the wallpaper of this “Talent at a Glance” Story. The key here is your creativity for that is what’s primary in this New Century; people with passion who know how to express their feeling.
After you select your image, on the left side of the screen a list of Talent Types Assessments will need to be populated and when they are completed a Composite Index Score will be prominently displayed. I like this feature of CV-STAND-OUT as it is a great leveling factor. Not everyone has been born into privilege or has been gifted with the intellect of a young Einstein but the qualities of being a “Good Person” that can collaborate their sincere contribution is the person that I want to hire.
Conversely to the privileged and the gifted if you do not possess these type of “soft skills” the entire world is going to be able the see those warts in just one glance. I think this makes the entire process much more equitable.
One more task remains, as on the left side of the screen various personal information is requested that tells your educational and experience part of your Talent Story. With this completed the JPG Proof is created and is your “Signature Calling Card.”
CV-STAND-OUT is the image you choose to demonstrate your Creativity. Your Talent Types Index reveals your Character Leadership. While your Personal Information is a glimpse into your Journey of Improvement. The three elements are a much more equitable and predictive measurement of your future potential.
For the Talent Acquisition Professionals it saves the greatest currency of this New Century; Time. You query your position requirements and receive a slideshow of these PDF Proofs. From anywhere on the planet within the intimate space of your mobile phone you absorb the Creative Images, Character Index and Personal Information. The combination of the image, index and info literally has the Stand-Out candidates jump off the page. All that remains is your deep listening skills to verify in “real time” that what your observed is that which you are experiencing.
While we do not have the technology of “chip-implanted” Projectional Imaging of 2050, our solution to the Talent Acquisition Process is a generation ahead of the present methods.
The “Resume of Tomorrow” is here to assist both candidates and employers the ability to create an entire new Talent Acquisition Paradigm.
